Having a mental problem with being stuck at the scene until a bus deigned to take me back to my car, there was no way I was hanging around there. But then I decided to see how close I could get on my own, which ended up being at Plymouth and Massachusetts, a block away from the main event. I only meant to take a few pictures and leave, but somehow I stuck around a bit.
Lots of people there, all waiting. Waiting for the bus. ZZ Top starting to play in my head "Have mercy been waitin' for the bus all day..."
After a practice cheer or so of "Move that bus!" we got to work up a good chant of "Move that van!" when security pulled up and blocked the view. I also participated as a member of the crowd by waving my arms and going "woo woo!" when an official camera came our way. It was the thing to do on a warm afternoon while waiting.
Finally the main bus arrived on the scene, but the limo was nowhere in sight.
Since security didn't appear to be on high alert, I didn't think it was close either (it wasn't). I was right next to a crowd control barrier and eventually I started resting my head on my arms. After two hours I was in danger of falling asleep. Figuring I couldn't see anything significant from a block away anyway, I left. Better view from television anyway.
The show is supposed to air January 10th or thereabouts, and may be a two hour special edition due to the involvement of a large segment of the WNY community. Good weather, good day, great week! It was almost like an eight day block party with all invited, but with accomplishments :)
